Pre-School

A child's early years is the time of the greatest growth and learning. Pre-School is where our youngest pupils (age 3 yrs +) are taught in a bright classroom, which opens immediately onto the garden.

We know that the children love being out of doors so, weather permitting, we have a classroom out as well as indoors.  We endeavour to build a love of learning from their early days which remains with them as they progress through the school.  The Airthrie Values are introduced as we encourage children to develop their imaginations and their independence skills.

At Airthrie we understand that beginning pre-school is a big step for both parents and the child and therefore have a flexible approach to commencement of attendance in our setting.

We wish the children to come to school happily and we work closely with parents to ensure the right approach for each individual child.

Some children may start gradually and build up their time with us on a completely flexible programme following one or two taster sessions, whilst other children may come to us immediately on a full-time arrangement.

All children are invited to attend taster sessions before they begin and parents are welcomed and encouraged to stay with their child.  We offer a range of sessions including morning, mornings including lunch, or all day, and parents are able to select which sessions and days they prefer. Airthrie lunches are freshly prepared on site and we are able to cater for specific dietary requirements.  Lunches are served in the classroom which creates a 'family feel' dining experience; promoting communication and language skills as well as good table manners.  Children in pre-school are encouraged to bring in a healthy fruit or vegetable snack to eat mid-morning.

Our pre-schoolers also benefit from weekly French, Music, Sport and Drama lessons from specialist teachers.
